Pasture-fed lamb offers a whole host of benefits. From its quality and nutritional value to animal welfare and environmental impact, there are plenty of reasons why it should be your first choice when buying meat.
A nutrient-rich choice
Simply put, it’s better for you! Pasture-fed lamb includes higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), vitamin E and selenium than grain-fed lamb. These nutrients play important roles in supporting overall health, including normal immune function and cardiovascular health.
Lower fat content
Pasture-fed lamb is typically leaner. Choosing a leaner cut can mean fewer calories and less saturated fat, while still providing plenty of high-quality protein, vitamins, minerals and flavour!
Better animal welfare
Raising lambs on rich, diverse pasture allows them to enjoy a more natural way of life, grazing, foraging and roaming freely outdoors. With plenty of space to move and access to fresh grass and hedgerows, pasture-raised lambs can follow their natural behaviours in a healthy outdoor environment.
Lavinton lambs are born and raised outside. They graze exclusively on the historic grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle.
A more sustainable approach
Rearing a 100% pasture-fed flock also has many positive environmental benefits. Grazing can support healthy soils, help reduce soil erosion and encourage biodiversity.
A better flavour
At Lavinton lamb, our sheep are a unique mix of primitive and native breeds. They are grown slower than commercial breeds which creates more natural fat marbling throughout the meat resulting in a deeper, richer flavour.
In addition, because our sheep are 100% pasture-fed, they are consuming a diverse mix of plants which adds to the flavour profile of the lamb.
