Persian butterflied leg of lamb

My favourite marinade for this barbecued lamb is a Persian mix of yoghurt, chilli, mint and lemon.  Also delicious is a combination of rosemary, garlic, olive oil and lemon; or go for a Moroccan flavour, with ground cumin and cinnamon, crushed coriander seeds, olive oil, garlic and paprika.  Try Thai-flavoured lamb, with coconut milk and green or red curry paste; or Indian, with fresh grated ginger, turmeric, cumin and garam masala.  Try them one by one throughout the summer.  Simple, excellent and delicious!

Lavinton wins Great Taste Award 2-star 2017!

Judged as outstanding, above and beyond delicious, just 15% of entries receive this award.

Lavinton’s shoulder of lamb was described by the judges as:

A very handsome piece of lamb that has delicious length of flavour and a high level of succulence.”

Great Taste winners are all genuine food people who care about the quality of food and drink they produce. Those producers entered 12,366 products with only 165 foods achieving the highest and most coveted rating, three stars. We had 1011 foods grabbing 2 stars and 3171 were awarded a 1 star. That means only 35% of entries were accredited – it’s tough.

Food or drink awarded a Great Taste star-rating has gone through a rigorous taste test. Judged by chefs, restaurateurs, food hall & deli buyers, acclaimed cooks, food writers and critics, every product has passed the palate test of a minimum of eight experts. The judges are looking for truly great taste. They take into account the texture, appearance and of course the ingredients; they like a good aroma, a decent bite, a smooth finish or a lingering flavour. Everything comes back to taste. Is it really, truly great?

Lavinton shoulder of lamb wins 3-star Great Taste Award

Here at Lavinton Lamb we’re very excited to announce that our shoulder of Hebridean cross lamb has won a three-star Great Taste award, one of only 141 products to achieve this highest gastronomic honour.

This is the ultimate accolade in the UK’s most prestigious food awards, run by the Guild of Fine Foods, so it is an extremely big deal and we are thrilled that all our hard work using extensively farmed native breeds to produce the best tasting lamb has been recognised.

Amazing quality meat

We cooked it low and slow and the shoulder was really moist and tender. This lamb had a delicious sweet flavour and the fat was very good. An excellent piece of meat – faultless.
